Exhibition Game #1 (vs UNLV)
Arizona State vs UNLV
It should be noted that before this game was played I forgot
to adjust the depth chart so that the two jewels of my recruiting class,
Chapman and Edelman both missed out on any in-game action. So after redshirting
Floyd and this mistake, the only true freshman to see any action was Norman
Bailey. Let’s get to the abridged recap
(since it’s merely an exhibition game).
As I’ve stated before, UNLV is one of the teams that I sort
of use to gauge the success I’m having out in the desert. They had a similar
prestige to me when I came on board and we have kind of always clawed for the
same prospects since we both fall in that 2nd tier of team below all
the “big dogs”. So this game would serve as just another barometer of where we
stand in comparison to each other.
Starting Lineups
The first half went about as well as we could have hoped
for. We scored the first points of the game when Keith Swearingen cashed in a
layup on the first possession of the game and we didn’t really ever look
back. Slowly a lead was built and by the
time we went into the half, we had established a 34-23 lead.
If any UNLV fans were hoping for a different result in the
second half, they were disappointed. ASU proceeded to just slowly build on
their lead and at one point lead the game 61-41, with under 7 minutes to
play. UNLV was able to make it more
respectable over the final minutes but it was never in doubt as ASU walked away
with a 65-55 victory.
