Returning Player Profile Series
SF Keith Swearingen (SO)
Arrived at Arizona State as the #19 ranked SF in his HS
class and was the first player to be documented in this player profile series
that didn’t get redshirted but instead played minutes his freshman year. Here is a look at his ratings when we came in
compared to how they are now after his first full season of college basketball.
As you can see, I felt comfortable with him playing right
away because of his higher Athleticism and Defensive attributes. Those two
things would help mask his freshman mistakes and if worst came to worst, at
least he would be able to provide a defensive presence and potentially lock
someone down on the opposing side for a few minutes a game.
He did end up playing about 7 minutes a game and chipping in
2.3 pts per game. Not much was
contributed by Keith but not a whole lot was expected or demanded from the true
freshman. He had a role to fill and he
did an admirable job. The hope is that
he develops a bit more over the off-season and comes in his Sophomore year
ready to be a much larger contributor. If he is able to see an average to large
jump in his perimeter rating he could even see some time at one of the guard
positions (especially as his passing continues to improve). Keith could eventually see some time as our
starting PG, SG, or SF before his time at ASU is over and is really poised to
be an important piece for us as we move forward.
