Exhibition Games Scheduled
And we have both of our exhibition games scheduled.
First off we welcome UNLV to the desert. UNLV has been a
team that we have long compared ourselves to. When we came on board they had a
very similar prestige and also were in a similar position as far as recruiting
goes. Over the course of my career with
ASU I have been able to gain a slight advantage in the prestige (B for us and
B- for them) however they did just have the national and defensive players of
the year (both were seniors) with the national player of the year actually
getting drafted into the NBA (2nd round pick, 38th
overall to the Detroit Pistons). I try to keep him on the schedule in some
capacity each year just to serve as a barometer for me to know about where we
stand.
The last of our exhibition games is against a coach that you
will likely see come up quite a bit around these parts, bk. He just took the
Baylor job, that I had considered leaving ASU for, after a successful stint in
the SEC at Arkansas. Upon starting this blog he was one of the first people to
reach out and express and interest and it’s great to be able to build a
relationship with another coach and ensure that we’ll have a long, fun rivalry
to play out over the next many seasons.
(Exhibition games serve as a chance for teams to set their
lineups, get a bit of practice time in, and make the decision on which, if any,
players will be redshirted. It has no bearing on the final season standings or
anything like that)
