In the final matchup on our exhibition schedule this season we travel to Waco, TX to take on the Baylor Bears.  Baylor is under the leadership of a new coach this year so they will likely be in a bit of a rebuilding stage as they move forward (we have them on the regular season non-conference schedule already for next season and will likely be a staple in that part of our schedule for many years to come).

This game turned out to be  much closer than the UNLV game which was quite a surprise to me. UNLV was a team coming off a tournament trip and had an established human coach whereas Baylor had a new team just being built up by BK.

Unlike that first exhibition game, we didn’t lead from the opening tip until the final buzzer as Baylor took their first lead just over 5 minutes into the game (7-6) and proceeded to build on that lead taking a 14-9 lead at one point. Luckily Watkins, Brown, and Kuiper answered back and restored the lead for ASU (17-16). The first half continued to go back and forth as one team would crawl to a 3 or 4 point lead just ot see it disappear and end up trailing by 3 or 4. When the buzzer sounded for the end of the first half ASU found themselves up 36-32 (thanks to a Kenneth Brown 3 with 2 seconds left in the half).

The early part of the 2nd half was much more like that UNLV game as we were able to hold onto our lead for the first 12:30 of the 2nd half, and were up 66-62 with 7:30 remaining in the game however Baylor scored 5 straight to take their first lead of the 2nd half by a score of 67-66. Their little run was answered by a bigger one of our own and by the time the dust settled ASU had finished the game on a 17-7 run and won by a final score of 84-73.
