National Tournament Round 1

7 seed Arizona State                          vs                       10 seed Oral Roberts

The starting 5 for ASU stayed the same as it has been all season long with William Dam running the point, Kenneth Brown playing the 2 spot, Doyle Clemens at the SF, Shawn Kuiper playing PF, and Wallace Bates in the middle.

Overall the game got off to a relatively slow start as halfway through the first half ASU was able to build a small 16-12 lead and they maintained that lead through the remainder of the half by going into the break with a narrow 30-29 advantage.

The second half saw ASU come out of the gates on fire, especially on the defensive side of the court.  Over the opening 8:15 of the half the Sun Devils went on an 11-0 run to take a 41-29 lead. Not to be outdone Oral Roberts answered with a run of their own by going on a 9-2 run to close the gap to 43-38 with 8 minutes remaining. However it wasn’t enough as ASU was able to hold on and pull away down the stretch to finish with a 61-48 victory.
