Green Valley, HS in Yucaipa, CA (300 miles from Campus)

As if my ASU squad needs any more big men, but sadly beggers can’t be choosers in the great Southwest as one of the best prospects within 300 miles of campus is this gem of a big man, Steven Chapman. He has the potential to play minutes the second he walks onto campus, even with the plethora of big men already on the roster.  His defensive rating isn’t quite as high as I would ideally like, and could be the one thing holding him back from being named an immediate starter, but he could really develop into a star.  If he ends up as a 90/100/90/95 (Athleticism/Rebounding/Defense/Low Post) player, he could be in discussion for leaving early for the NBA Draft.

All that being said, Steven is near the top of my priority list. However, as I’ve pointed out previously, the Pac10 is a small universe and the # of high quality prospects in the southwest is pretty slim. So there is a real likelihood that Arizona or one of the southern California teams with more overall success decide that they would also like an eventual 90/100/90/95 player on their roster and swoop in on him.  All I can say is that I’ll throw a nice chunk of recruiting effort at him as soon as recruiting opens up and see if I can get him around to the idea of being part of the ASU family.
