Our ASU squad has taken a journey similar to many top D1 programs in the real world by scheduling a sim team in the first game of the season who hasn’t been to the national tournament in 34 seasons, or a tournament at all in 30. Alabama A&M’s is their Junior Center Swletomierz Strzalkowski from Russia at a rating of 671 and their team average is a lowly 523. It’s safe to say that we were 35 pt favorites and this wouldn’t be much of a game at all.

Surprisingly Alabama A&M was able to keep the game close through the first 6 minutes as ASU was only leading by a score of 9-8 however that wouldn’t last long as that lead continued to grow and grow until the eventual halftime score was 42-20 in favor of Arizona State.

The 2nd half was much the same and we’re not going to get into much detail about it since the game wasn’t close at any stage of the half.  I would like to point out that games like this do help give the reserves more minutes than they would get otherwise and although we have a few more teams on the non-conference schedule that we should handle pretty easily, this is by far the easiest opponent we’ll face all season long. The final scored ended up being 77-44 (so anyone who took A&M plus the points would have actually won as they were able to cover the spread lol).

Next up on the schedule is rival Princeton. Their coach (Sci23) and I have had an annual game ever since I left the Ivy League and took the job at Arizona State.  My career record against him is 12-16, so he has gotten the better of me overall but a good chunk of those were while I was tooling away at Brown.
